Fairfield County, located in the Olde English District of South Carolina between Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC via I-77 and is rich with history and agriculture. The county name is believed to have originated with Lord Cornwallis, when in 1780-1781 during the Revolutionary War, he and his British Troops wintered in Winnsboro. While taking in the view of the surrounding area from his second floor window, Cornwallis declared “Oh, What Fair Fields, . . ” thus Fairfield County.
